Under the Temple Sun: II

Under the Temple Sun: II April 2005 in the Angkor temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Bright sunshine, tropical heat and humidity – the like of which I had never encountered – along with the ancient mysteries that draw tourists year after year are part and parcel in Angkor. The rosy tone of the stone used to construct Bantay Srei is brilliant under the full sun. A brilliant idea on the part of many tourists is revealed in the creation of shade by an umbrella. Seeing umbrellas seems situationally ironic in the sunny, 100+ degree weather as hot season draws to a close during April – rainy season soon to make the umbrellas serve a more typical function.
