Dawn At My Back

Dawn At My Back April 2005 in the Angkor temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia
My second morning at the Angkor temples I went to the Large Reflecting Pool. There were a dozen or so Cambodia children huddled around in the pre-dawn light watching me set up my camera, tripod and cable release. One pointed to the cable release and called out ‘click-click’ as a way to indicate my intention to take some pictures. I smiled and responded with a nod and echoed ‘click-click’. The children were so endearing that I let the more curious ones take a look through the viewfinder, then press the cable plunger to hear my camera make the click-click sound. The young boy silhouetted in the picture was one of the more reserved youngsters. He finally came close enough to take his turn pressing the plunger on the cable release, but instead of just the sunrise he beautifully captured his silhouette with the dawning of a new day at his back.
